The uninhabited island neighboring the ruling island of Baa atoll Eydhafushi, Maaddoo has been established as an extension of Eydhafushi.

Addressing the residential community of Eydhafushi, the President recalled that this development of establishing the island of Maaddoo as a part of Eydhafushi was a pledge he had made during last year’s presidential elections and that in conformity of his word, it has been decided to assign Maaddoo to the ruling island of Eydafushi.

He assured to deliver the documents to authenticate this development to the Eydhafushi Council within this week. The president highlighted that the incorporation of Maaddoo into Eydhafushi's jurisdiction will allow the residential community of Eydhafushi to utilize the uninhabited island while also launching housing projects in the island.

“Maaddoo will become an island linked with your [the residents of Eydhafushi] future.”

The establishment of Maaddoo as an extension of Eydhafushi holds no date of expiry. The president ascertained that Maaddoo is permanently under the jurisdiction of Eydhafushi from this point on.

Furthermore the president announced on Sunday night that Eydhafushi is one of the urban centers within the seven urban centers determined to be developed by the president. He further asserted that consequently, Eydhafushi will be highly emphasized for developmental procedures.

President Muizzu had reiterated that this administration’s highest priority is ensuring housing opportunities and assured that Eydhafushi will be prioritized within the 40,000-housing unit project determined to be launched by the State. The president had further stated that efforts are presently underway to plan the inclusion of Eydhafushi within this project.

Maaddoo was previously an inhabited island which was deserted during the consolidation procedures launched during the administration of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. This procedure had relocated the whole of Maaddoo’s residential community to Eydhafushi.
