Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), on Saturday, broke ground on the water and sewerage system project in Goidhoo, Baa Atoll.
Inaugurated by MWSC Chairman Ahmed Mausoom and Managing Director Hassan Shah, the work reportedly carries a price tag of MVR 46 million and will result In a main piping network that spans 15 kilometres.
The project also includes the building of a reverse osmosis plant, treatment and maintenance facility as well as two 300-cubic-meter tanks for water storage.
Nearly 8.7 kilometres of piping will be utilised for sewerage needs.
According to state-owned MWSC, work is expected to conclude within 22 months.
Despite work only officially commencing after mid-January, the company records, at present, completion of up to 31 percent for the building facility intended to house the aforementioned water plants.
The company has also revealed that, similarly, work concerning the sewerage network was also already underway.
MWSC has launched numerous such projects recently, many of which initially faced postponement due to the emergence of the COVID19 pandemic.
Establishing fully-functional sewerage and water treatment plants in numerous local islands is one of incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s key electoral pledges.
