The President made the remarks while speaking at a campaign event for Ibrahim Mohamed (Ibuti) who is contesting for the South Galolhu constituency under the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) ticket in the parliamentary elections on Sunday. The President added that the opposition government had enjoyed winning a supermajority in parliament for five years, and that they had still failed to resolve the question of housing for citizens of Malé City.

Alluding to the last minute projects undertaken by the MDP government with just a few days left in office, President Dr Muizzu said that they were efforts that should have been initiated since the beginning to resolve the problem of lack of housing security for citizens.

In his speech, President Dr Muizzu said that the people of Maldives had trusted and given him an opportunity to correct the nation's course. He added that the parliament will need to be filled with cooperative members who can help him achieve that.

"There is no reason for you to introduce people from different constituencies as MPs to parliament if they will obstruct these things. Development is needed. We, the government, are working day and night to bring development, and while we are here, I do not believe anyone will see a point in electing MPs who will hinder us."

President Dr Muizzu said that if supportive MPs who will help carry out the vision entrusted to him are elected into the People's Majlis, the next five years would be a time that citizens could feel proud of.
