Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) together with 173 participants from 80 companies, have begun representing Maldives at the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2022.

Regarded as one of the major travel trade events, the WTM London is hosted at ExCel London from November 7 to 9. The Maldivian delegation at the fair is led by MMPRC Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed.

WTM London is considered one of the "leading global events for the travel industry to meet industry professionals and conduct business deals". MMPRC will be fully utilizing the event's industry networks and unrivalled global reach. The three-day in-person event creates business opportunities by connecting industry delegates and international media.

Throughout the entire travel trade fair, MMPRC aims to meet with travel trade from the United Kingdom along with other global partners and share the latest and best of Maldivian tourism industry's offerings and products. The primary tourism promoter and industry partners will promote the "diverse products and segments" while showcasing the unique aspects, activities and experiences through its 420 square-meter double-decker stand at the fair.

Moreover, MMPRC reports this participation at one of the largest travel trade fairs in the world, coinciding with the island nation's tourism Golden Jubilee. Additionally, the tourism promoter and industry partners aim to maintain the presence and destination momentum as a top-of-the-mind holiday hotspot for the UK market, currently third-ranked source market to the Maldives.

A major highlight of activities planned for the WTM London 2022 include the "Maldives Media Meet" - celebrating 50 years of tourism in the Maldives. The meet hosted on November 9, included speakers Hussain Afeef, one of the most prominent figures in the Maldivian tourism scene, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Farah Faizal, the High Commissioner of the Maldives to the UK, Great Britain and Ireland as well as MMPRC front man Thoyyib Mohamed.

To strategically promote the Maldives during the Maldivian delegation's visit to the UK, MMPRC will additionally host a three-city roadshow series set at London, Manchester and Newcastle on November 9, 10 and 11 respectively.

United Kingdom is considered one of the strongest source markets to the tropical destination, both in terms of 2022 as well as traditionally. The country ranks third currently, in terms of source market with 147,535 annual arrivals as of November 2, 2022. This is a 10.9 percent market share from the total 1,354,828 annual total arrivals to the Maldives.
