COVID-19: Death toll reaches 165

Health Protection Agency (HPA) had revealed on Tuesday that four more people had passed away due to COVID-19, making the death toll reach 165.

HPA had announced on Monday that two more people had passed away as well. They were the 160th and 161st COVID death. The agency had said a 62 year old Maldivian man admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital had passed away in the afternoon and a 58 year old Maldivian man was brought to IGMH emergency room was declared dead at 1500hrs.

The 162nd COVID death was a 70 year old Maldivian man that was admitted in Hulhumale' Medical Facility (HMF). He passed away at 0341hrs.

Another Maldivian man admitted in Baa COVID Management Facility had passed away 0440hrs. The 163rd COVID death was a 87 year old man.

Two more Maldivians admitted in HMF had also passed away. They were a 50 year old man that passed away at 0546hrs and a 59 year old woman that passed away 0614hrs. They were the 164th and 165th COVID deaths.

Out of the 165 recorded COVID deaths in Maldives so far, 88 deaths happened in May. February of this year held the record for most deaths within a month previously, at 10 deaths within the month.

To control the fast spread of COVID-19, Greater Male' Area was placed under lockdown on May 26. Currently, 64,396 people have tested positive for COVID-19 so far. There are 24,109 active cases currently.
