Indian police revealed Saturday that they seized illegal narcotic substances which they suspected were to be smuggled into Maldives.
According to Indian media, 14 kilograms of illegal drugs were seized in an operation conducted by Indian authorities on Friday. Reports say that the drugs were transported to Andhra Pradesh in a car under concealment.
Three arrests were made in relation to this drug bust.
Authorities state that the illegal substances were en route to be delivered to agents who would smuggle the drugs into Maldives and other countries.
Additionally, they revealed that those arrested were providing them with information and details about the case, which would be disclosed later on.
Prior to this, Maldives Police Service seized approximately 200 kilograms of illegal narcotics on two separate occasions. While 149 kilograms of the drugs were uncovered buried in an uninhabited island, the other 50 kilograms were found on an Iranian boat intercepted in Maldivian waters. Arrests were made in both cases.
