Institute for Wellness Education will host a webinar titled "Rape: From Broken to Unbreakable" on June 26, in an attempt to dismantle the shame, stigma and silence surrounding sexual violence.

According to the organisers, the one-hour session will initiate an open dialogue on rape and its impact on victims, thereby, giving strength to survivors to talk about their trauma and seek help.

Rape-survivor, TEDx speaker, author and psychotherapist Madeline Black will share her survival story during the session, aiming to inspire victims and fuel the narrative that "it is not what happens to us that is important but what we do with it".

Wellness Education noted that despite how often we come across the word 'rape' in news headlines, social media statuses, or as a statistic, it still remains a taboo topic which is shameful and difficult to talk about.

Due to this need to protect ones' family honour or to avoid the shame and harassment that may arise, many cases go unreported. As a result, victims, whether they are women, men or children, often do not get the justice they deserve.

Highlighting that victims and survivors face immense barriers in finding their voice and seeking help, the organisers noted that many are further victimised due to their experiences while perpetrators roam freely.

With this webinar, Wellness Education aims to start a conversation to break the silence surrounding rape and sexual assault, and emphasise that victims are not alone and their trauma does not define them.

"This session is for you and me, for victims and survivors, for those who are struggling to find the courage to seek help, for those who are battling to find themselves again, for those who are seeking others that have gone through the same struggle as them, for those who cannot define their lives apart from the incident of abuse or trauma, for those who want to find their voice again".

Any interested individuals can view the session live on Institute for Wellness Education's Facebook page or MV Plus' Facebook page or Twitter handle.
