Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) has granted the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization (CAMO) approval to BEOND, the world’s first premium leisure airline. The airline received the approval under the recently enacted MCAR-CAMO regulations.

Speaking about MCAA’s CAMO approval, BEOND’s Chief Operations Officer Nantha Lenin said, “We are pleased to have received approval from the MCAA for our CAMO.”

“Our team undertook a thorough setup audit internally, which was then followed by rigorous MCAA audits.”

Lenin further said the cooperation between MCAA and BEOND is exemplary and thanked the authority for its support. He said the CAMO approval was a step towards receiving the airline’s Air Operations Certificate in the Maldives, which would be its next step.

The airline recently announced the successful completion of USD 17 million ‘Seed Round’ from a group of esteemed investors, and the round was oversubscribed reflecting the investors’ strong confidence in the airline, BEOND said.

BEOND is expected to begin operations in autumn this year with Maldives as its first hub. The airline intends to fly a fleet of state-of-the-art Airbus A320-family aircraft in a “unique luxury, lay-flat configuration”. The airline will be bringing travelers to the Maldives from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

The airline readying to launch its commercial luxury flight operations during the third quarter of 2023 opened its office in Malé City earlier on May 19. The office was inaugurated by the State Minister of Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Ahmed Zuhair, BEOND’s Chief Executive Officer Tero Taskila, and SIMDI Group’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mariyam Shakeela.

The airline is a joint venture between United Arab Emirates’ Arabesque and Maldivian business conglomerate SIMDI Group.
