Saudi Arabia announces first day of Eid Al Adha on June 16

Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent tonight, which marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah. Arafat day, which precedes Hajj day will now fall a day prior on June 15 and Eid Al Adha will be observed on June 16.

Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent tonight, which marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.

An announcement by the Saudi government stated that the crescent moon has been sighted, marking the first day of Dhul Hijjah tomorrow.

Arafat day, which precedes Hajj day will now fall a day prior on June 15 and Eid Al Adha will be observed on June 16.

Previously, according to the Islamic Hijri calendar, the first day of Dhul Hijjah day would have be observed on Saturday, June 8, Arafat Day would fall on June 16, and Eid Al Adha on June 17.

Some of the Maldivians who will perform the Hajj pilgrimage this year are already in Saudi Arabia.

The last flight carrying Hajj pilgrims will depart for Saudi Arabia tomorrow. Saudi Arabia allocated a total of 1,000 slots for Maldivian pilgrims this year as well.
