Ministry of Islamic Affairs has granted Australian Navy Imam Majidih Essa the opportunity to deliver the sermon during Friday prayers in Maldives.
The Ministry said that Imam Essa will deliver the sermon in English language this Friday at Rasheed Mosque in Hulhumale'.
Imam Essa has studied from the Islamic University in Medinah, the Ministry said.
The first time a foreigner delivered a Friday sermon in English language in the Maldives was during Dr Shaheem's earlier tenure as Islamic Minister in 2015. At the time, renowned American Islamic scholar Dr Yasir Qadhi had delivered the Friday sermon at the Islamic Centre in capital Male' City.
