Although Auditor General's Office submitted a proposal to increase the budget, parliament has approved a budget of MVR 112.2 million, not including the proposed increment.
The office initially proposed a budget of MVR 123 million, citing the increment had factored in seven new hirings for the following year and the planned introduction of a new dependent allowance. The office allocated MVR 11 million to introduce this allowance.
Auditor General's Office provided a presentation at the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee which highlighted its recurrent expenditure at MVR 82 million in 2024, out of which MVR 56 million will be allocated for remuneration.
Ministry of Finance however, advised the parliament committee against the remuneration increase right now since the state is already working on migrating to the new pay framework that will revise and increase the salaries of Auditor General's Office employees.
Parliament's Public Accounts Committee reviewed the budget and decided to exclude the MVR 11 million.
At the voting in parliament's Wednesday sitting, the budget was approved unanimously with 52 votes.
The office proposed a budget of MVR 93 million for 2023, which however increased to MVR 100 million due to office relocation expenditure.
