Floating City project to undergo audit in 2024

The Auditor General's Office has announced that it will be conducting an audit of the Floating City project in 2024.

At the parliament finance committee meeting on Monday, October 16, Auditor General's Office revealed the planned audits for next year.

Director of the Audit Office, Mohamed Shaan said that special audits are initiated based on complaints submitted by the parliament or other government agencies.

Special audits scheduled for 2024 include the Floating City Project, State Trading Organization (STO) and Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) audits concerning fuel stocks, SME Development Finance Corporation (SDFC), and an audit of Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) related to procurement processes.

According to Shaan, the office is expected to conduct 294 finance compliance audits, 39 audit reviews, five special audits, four performance audits, and four information system audits, totaling 346 audits in 2024.

"Our audits are focused on delivering the state finance reports, and completion of audits of all the major entities within the year," Shaan said.

He further said that the audits for next year include reviews of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and 30 state-initiated projects along with the audits of three public funds.

The state finance system and state debt reports will be audited next year as well, Shaan added.

At the meeting, the Auditor General's Office submitted a budget proposal of MVR 123 million for the office next year.

The parliament holds authority of approving the budget for the Auditor General's Office.
