Following last night's protest by thalassemia patients and their families against the Thalassemia Centre's management, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has visited the centre this morning to look into current issues being faced.

Last night's protest was held after a meeting with Maldives Blood Services (MBS) management, with the patients and their families claiming no resolution has been found in three months to the issues of faulty filters that result in wasted blood, with some packets getting damaged during transfusions.

Protesters said that securing blood donations is already difficult, especially during Ramadan, and it is deeply upsetting to see blood being discarded due to the negligence of the center’s management.

A senior official of the President's Office said today that the President visited the Thalassemia Centre today, and listened to the concerns of staff and patients present at the time.

The government has not yet announced measures that will be taken to resolve the issues.

The President was accompanied by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer.
