A land plot has been acquired from Hulhumale' to relocate auction stores

Housing Minister has stated that a land plot from Hulhumale' has been temporarily allocated for the relocation of previously operated Neelan Fihaara (auction shop).

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Ali Haidar has stated today that a land plot from Hulhumale has been acquired to recommence Neelan Fihaara businesses that were previously operated in Male’ City.

Disclosing details of ventures completed by the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure within the 14-day roadmap of the present government that includes targets to be achieved during the initial 100 days of this administration, Haidar had remarked that a temporary land from the industrial area in Phase 1 has been allocated to commence efforts to reopen Neelan Fihaara.

He had revealed that efforts are presently underway to mark boundaries in the area.

“The work presently ongoing is establishment of boundaries alongside other work to be undertaken.”

Neelan Fihaara previously operated in the former Number 1jetty area had seen many fire incidents and had received much destruction as a result. A large fire incident had occurred at the location during the beginning of last year and the damages incurred had deemed the place unsuitable for further use.

The decision that Neelan Fihaara can no longer be operated in the location was made by Male’ City Mayor of that time, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Now, the land to recommence the operation of Neelan Fihaara has also been allocated under the instructions of President Muizzu.

Some pledges to be fulfilled by the Ministry within the 14-day roadmap:

- Reduction of monthly rent withdrawn from local flats and row houses from MVR 5000 to MVR 3,333 and alter the duration of the payments to 20 years.

- Establishment of a trust fund structure related to housing

- Determining special categories of social housing schemes launched in local islands for tourism industry workers. These resort employees can apply for housing projects launched nearby their resort of employment. Recipients of these housing allocations will assume permanent ownership.

- Conducting surveys to relocate workshops and godowns in Male’ City to industrial zones and formulate a plan to develop these industrial zones.

- Establishing a special portal to form land use plans that provides updates on the approval of these plans.

- Formulating a development master plan for the next twenty years. Efforts to secure aid from investors and global parties to develop a framework for this has commenced.

- Developing the established portion of the old Jamaludheen School’s land into an underground parking zone and a nature park for recreation.

- A bill on urban development has been drafted and proposed to the parliament

- Sending a bill related to the expansion of real estate businesses to the parliament

- A 30,000 acres of land plot from the area reclaimed from the inner beach of Thilafushi has been established from the Male’ area to resolve the difficulties faced by Vilimale’ fiberglass boat workers.

- HDC has appointed the construction of additional two elevators inside each Hiya Flat in Hulhumale Phase 2 to a Chinese contractor.
