Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have surpassed 1.7 million for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism indicate that tourist arrivals for the corresponding period in 2022 have reached 1.5 million, with 1.6 million annual arrivals last year.

The year-to-date arrival to the Maldives is over 100,000 more than last year's total arrivals, the ministry reported.

The annual arrival target for 2023 is 1.8 million, though the previous government had revised the target to 1.9 million, which can only be achieved if the current and final month of the year attracts over 200,000 arrivals.

In addition to this, tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far in 2023 has observed an annual 12 percent increment.

Russia leads the top source markets to the Maldives, with over 190,000 arrivals. India follows closely behind in second spot with over 180,000 arrivals while China is in third place with over 170,000.

The daily arrival average is at 5,000 in annual terms, while the average duration of stay is seven days.
