The Department of National Registration (DNR) announced that Maldivian citizens can now choose the location for national ID card collection when submitting online applications.
Prior to this, residents outside of Male’ City were required to submit applications directly to their respective council authorities, from where the cards could be collected. However, the DNR previously restricted online card collection to Male’ City only.
As a result of the recent upgrades made to its online portal, customers can now request to make or renew ID cards without the need to fill out a PDF form. Additionally, the DNR stated that councils will no longer accept application forms directly, with several councils already announcing this change on Tuesday, March 14.
The Maldives government is also testing digital identity cards, which would eliminate the need for physical cards.
