The Maldives government has set permitted hours to transport goods for commercial purposes during Ramadan this year.

The Ministry of Transport said that transportation of heavy loads and other logistical services will be restricted between 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. every evening during the Islamic holy month.

Any party found violating this regulation will be fined MVR 750 per offense, the ministry added.

The ministry has permitted logistical services to be carried out between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and again from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. every day. Transportation of goods across the Sinamalé Bridge is permitted between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and again from 1:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m.

Delivery of utilities such as cooking gas and water is permitted between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., during which transportation of these items across the bridge is allowed as well.

Every Ramadan, the government sets logistical service hours to keep traffic under control and make getting around easier.
