Maldives Food and Drug Authority has banned the import of secret miracle honey for men, a product designed for sexual enhancement which is promoted and sold on social media, due to continuous sale of the product against orders from the authority.

An alert released by the authority stated that the miracle honey contains traces of tadalafil and sildenafil which are drugs that treats erectile dysfunction.

Elaborating further, senior pharmacist at MFDA Aishath Jaleela said that there are limitations to how much medicine is consumed even for treatments. However, not even international healthcare specialist have identified the amount of tadalafil and sildenafil infused in this product promoted as a miracle honey, said Jaleela.

In an earlier announcement on September 2022, MFDA had prohibited the use and sale of miracle honey containing these two drugs varieties. However, due to the sale of the product expanding regardless of the ban, MFDA has now disallowed import of the product and also notified Maldives Customs on the issue.

MFDA said that products which contain doctored drugs such as these poses substantial health risks and in some cases, may also threaten a person's life.
