Fenaka Corporation is working on installing solar panels across the Maldives as part of its efforts to increase renewable energy usage and reduce reliance on diesel power generation.

Under the "Poised Project," funded by a grant from the Asian Development Bank, Fenaka is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to implement solar-diesel hybrid power generation systems.

The project aims to enhance renewable energy integration and decrease fuel dependency.

In Thaa atoll, Fenaka is installing a total of 2.49 MW of solar panels and a 1.9 MW battery energy storage system. Many islands in the atoll have already had solar panels installed and pre-commissioned, with the remaining installations expected to be completed by the end of the month.

The project will also see the installation of solar panels in Baa and Raa atolls starting in September. In Baa atoll, 2.74 MW of solar panels will be installed, and in Raa atoll, 3.599 MW will be installed. Additionally, a total of 5 MW of solar panels will be set up at various power plants across these atolls.

Fenaka is also working on the "Aspire Project," which involves installing solar panels in the six largest islands it serves, including Addu City, Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Thinadhoo, Fuvahmulah City, Lhaviyani atoll Hinnavaru, Baa atoll Eydhafushi, and Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi. A total of 11 MW of solar panels will be installed in these islands.

These initiatives align with the government's Strategic Action Plan, which aims to convert 33 percent of the nation's electricity generation to renewable energy.
