The People's National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group has decided to form a permanent parliament committee dedicated to housing issues.

PNC Parliamentary Group (PG) Leader and MP for Inguraidhoo constituency Ibrahim Falah said today that the party intended to establish a dedicated committee that would focus especially on efforts related to housing.

Housing is one of the key areas of focus of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's administration. It is among his pledges to ensure that everyone is secured housing by the end of his five year term.

The 20th Parliament took oath of office yesterday morning, and held its first sitting after that. The Parliament Secretariat has asked for the submission of names from political parties and independents to various committees by the end of Sunday.

As the total number of members are higher in this parliament, some of the committees have increased their number of members from 8 to 11.

The National Security Committee, on the hand, previously had 18 members, but has been decreased to 13 members for this term.

The recently concluded 19th People's Majlis had also formed a number of new committees; the Decentralization Committee, Environment and Climate Change Committee and Human Rights and Gender Committee.
