Promising young sprinter Ahna Nizar achieved a national youth record in the 200 meters event at the Asian Athletics Championship.
During the tournament held from July 12 to July 16, Ahna achieved set the national youth record by completing her heat in the first round of the 200 meters event with a timing of 25.73 seconds.
She had previously held the national youth record for the 200 meters event, setting a time of 25.77 seconds in the Association Championship held last year.
Despite setting the national record, Ahna Nizar narrowly missed qualifying for the semi-finals in the Asian Athletics Championship. Apart from Ahna, the Maldives squad included six female athletes and eight male athletes who represented the country in the championship.
The Asian Athletics Championship served as a crucial preparation for the upcoming Indian Ocean Island Games, which are scheduled to be held in Madagascar.
Ahna, with her remarkable performances, has earned her place in the athletics squad representing the Maldives in the IOIG.
