Aishath Himna Hasan, dubbed the country's fastest female sprinter, broke the national record in the women's 400m for the second time this month.
Himna, who previously set the national record for the women's 400m in 2018, 2019, and 2021, had once again renewed the record this month. Her record-breaking time last year was 57.56 seconds in the National Time Trial.
Himna, who is currently undergoing training in Jamaica as a recipient of the Paris Olympics 2024 scholarship from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), first broke the national record in the women's 400m during the Jaaa Budapest Quest 2023 Series 2 event held in Jamaica on May 17, clocking an impressive time of 56.86 seconds.
On May 24, Himna set a new national record in the women's 400m with a time of 56.24 seconds at the fifth series of Jaaa All Commers Meet in Jamaica.
Himna is set to represent Maldives in two upcoming international competitions. She will participate in the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Madagascar in August and the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September.
Himna has achieved remarkable progress in a short span of time. She broke the Maldives' 21 year old 100m record at the Commonwealth Games and then went on to break the six-year-old 200m record at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey just a week later.
