Five talented Maldivian athletes have been chosen to represent the Maldives in the 62nd National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar from June 15 to 19.
These athletes will also compete in the upcoming Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG). Two of the athletes are currently undergoing full-time training in Bangalore, through a scholarship provided by the Indian High Commission.
The two athletes currently training in Bangalore, Hassan Saaid and Ziva Moosa Shafeeu, had previously participated in the Grand Prix events held in March and April. Hassan Saaid showcased his skills by winning seven medals across four grand prix tournaments While, Ziva Moosa Shafeeu secured one medal, and her performance in the 800m event came close to breaking the national record.
Fazeel Haroon earned the title of best athlete in the Milo Division Open category and Ahmed Najdhaan Abdullah achieved first place in the inter-school athletics 100m category.
To secure a place in the Inter State Senior Athletics Championship, athletes must undergo an entry time trial and complete the runs within the specified time. This rigorous process ensures that only the best athletes qualify for the championship.
