Promising young sprinter from Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi Ahna Nizar has set a new National Youth Record in the 100-meter running event at the fifth Youth Asian Athletics Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Ahna completed the race in the second heat of the semi finals in under 12.50 seconds, setting a new record and beating the previous one set by Mariyam Rooya Ali at the Under-18 Asian Youth Athletics Championship held in October 2022.

Despite her accomplishment, Ahna placed sixth in her heat of the semi-finals and was unable to advance to the finals. India’s Abhinaya Rajaran took first place with a time of 11.66 seconds.

Ahna, who is only 15 years old, has already achieved great success in various international tournaments.

Earlier this year, she set another national record at the 10th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship by completing the 60-meter sprint in under 7.89 seconds, beating Jauna Abdulla Nafiz's previous record of under 8.30 seconds set in the 2008 Asian Indoor Championship held in Doha, Qatar.

However, Mariyam Rooya Ali broke Ahna's record just 10 minutes later in the next heat of the same tournament by completing the race in 7.66 seconds.
