Women's relay team secures bronze at IOIG

During the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) held in Madagascar, the Maldives secured a bronze medal in the women's 4x100m relay.

This marks the first time in the country's athletic history that the women's relay team has secured a medal. The women's team consisted of Aishath Himna Hasan, Maryam Ru'ya Ali, Ahna Nizar, and Mariyam Alha Hussain.

Maldives overtook Reunion and Seychelles with a timing of 47.03 seconds. The Madagascar team finished first with a timing of 44.82 seconds, and the Mauritius team secured second place with a timing of 46.56 seconds.

The Maldives mixed relay team also secured their first bronze medal at this year's IOIG.

In the 200m finals at the IOIG, Maldives competed in both the men's and women's events. In the men's final, Hassan Saaid secured a fifth-place finish with a time of 21.58 seconds, while Mohamad Minhal Shamin finished in eighth place with a time of 22.55 seconds. In the women's final, Aminath Layana Mohamed finished in eighth place with a time of 26.30 seconds.

In the women's 400m final, which took place on Thursday, three local sprinters represented the nation. three local sprinters represented the nation. Among them, Himna delivered the best performance, finishing fifth with a time of 58.13 seconds. Ziva Moosa Shafiu, secured sixth place, with a time of 58.21, while Layana, with a time of 58.46 seconds, secured the seventh position. However, all three medals in the event were claimed by sprinters from Madagascar.
