Newly inaugurated President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed that the new cabinet ministers of his government are enthusiastic about serving the public.
While addressing the ceremony held to inaugurate the new clock tower at Maafannu on Saturday evening, November 18, President Muizzu assured that the previously sluggish state administrative efforts will pick up pace from the first official working day on Sunday, November 19.
"[The aim] is to put fresh impetus and proceed with state's administrative efforts apace. The ministers are eager to serve the public. We will work tirelessly day and night, towards this aim," President Muizzu said.
President Muizzu also assured his government will work closely with the public in delivering to their needs, which the central government will learn though the relevant island council authorities.
While emphasizing that he worked closely with local council authorities and the central government, Dr. Muizzu stated that he would work to resolve prevailing issues in cooperation among the government agencies under his administration.
He also emphasized the establishment of a new ministry to enforce councils' authority, stating that this move would expedite the delivery of public needs in accordance with the public's preferences.
"While I was the Mayor of Malé City, we did not get the central government's cooperation, but from now on, things will move at a fast pace. Especially, the delayed parking building project will commence according to the agreements," the President said.
He highlighted that the high-rise parking structure would address congestion and parking difficulties experienced across the Greater Malé region, adding that foreign aid would be sought if necessary for such projects.
President Muizzu also declared that the physical works of Fushidhiggaru lagoon reclamation project will commence in the next 30 days and added that the three-times large land area in Hulhumalé 2 will be reclaimed in the next eight months.
He also emphasized that priority would be given to expedite the Thilamalé Bridge project along with the reclamation of Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru lagoon.
"With God's grace, we will deliver upon our promise of solving housing difficulties for locals across the entire country," Dr. Muizzu said.
President Muizzu further noted his government's policy on regional development initiatives and pledged to establish urban centers across various areas in the country with the aim of providing medium-term and long-term progress.
"We need to think about our environment, we need to think about climate adaptation. While the Maldives is in need of adopting such policies for its progress, it will be our policy as well," President Muizzu said.
The eighth President of Maldives added that foreign delegates he met with following the inauguration had assured of cooperation in areas of mutual interest and concern.
