Ministry of Foreign Affairs has today urged Maldivian travelers to employ caution when visiting the UK following civil unrest in the country.

A statement released by the Ministry today stated that the High Commission is monitoring a series of activities against Muslims by angry protestors over a deadly knife attack which killed three girls during a dance class in Southport, a town located in northwest England.

Far-right groups rampaged in the town, reportedly targeting shops and a local mosque over false claims that the suspect in the stabbings which saw three victims aged six, seven and nine is a Muslim immigrant.

Foreign Ministry implored Maldivians residing in the UK and those travelling to the country to practice caution, particularly those living in Southport and areas surrounding the town.

"The Ministry's request is for each and every person to be especially cautious and stay updated on events while prioritizing one's own safety," read the statement.

The Ministry entreated to avoid areas sparked with unrest and follow any instructions of related institutions in the region as well.

They urged Maldivian locals to contact the Maldivian High Commission in the UK via the number (44) 02072242135 or email [email protected] to seek consular assistance over these ongoing protests.
