Institute for Global Success (IGS) on Saturday launched the Canadian Space Agency (CSA)'s Junior Astronaut Program in Maldives.
The institute will work with CSA to implement a course catered to adolescents that wish to become astronauts or pursue careers in the field space and science.
The first iteration of the one-month course is set to commence on December 6, open for students between Grade 7 and 9. Those completing the program will be certified by CSA.
Interested parties are advised to visit IGS's Facebook page to apply online.
According to IGS' Chairman and CEO Riffath Mohamed, becoming an astronaut is a highly sought-after dream in the country.
He further noted that participants also stand a chance to pursue additional trainings under the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), including tests in a zero-gravity environment.
IGS is a local institute that strives to build the future leaders of the country. Earlier in October, IGS announced plans to launch the first asteroid discovery programme in Maldives. The organization also marked the World Space Week in Maldives for the first time, through virtual activities on the theme 'Satellites Improve Life', held for students from October 4 to 10.
Later in November, the Institute declared that it will launch the first space programme in Maldives in the coming year.
