Foreign delegates have started arriving prior to the 54th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship 2022.
The event host, Bodybuilding Association of Maldives (BBAM) affirms the championship will be the biggest sporting event ever to be held in the island nation.
BBAM reports that over 30 bodybuilding athletes and officials from Asian region will be arriving in Maldives to take part in the championship.
Some of the notable arrivals for the event include the President of Asian Bodybuilding Federation Datuk Paul Chua and the Chairman of the judge's committee Ms. Christina Y. Kam.
The judges panel for the championship will reportedly include a panel of 31 judges, which will include Maldivian officials as well according to BBAM.
The event will be hosted in the local tourism centric island of Maafushi, Kaafu atoll.
BBAM's President Ibrahim Hameed assures that the event will incorporate the island nation's tradition and cultural values, while a special logo accentuating Maldivian culture was launched earlier.
Hameed further emphasized on the boost on local tourism through the bodybuilding championship as he highlighted the Maldives popularity among senior officials of Asian Bodybuilding Federation.
Apart from the 30 international athletes, a total of 20 Maldivian athletes will be competing in various categories of the event.
Local athletes have won multiple accolades in similar events previously which had included two silver medal wins at the World Bodybuilding and Physique Championship 2021; won by Mohamed Rasheed and Mohamed Moosa.
