FIFA has appointed former Sports Minister Ahmed Zuhoor as Chairman of the Normalization Committee, and handed over the running of Football Association of Maldives (FAM) to the committee.

FIFA has notified Acting General Secretary Mohamed Jaushan Shareef that the Normalization Committee will be leading the association effective now.

Five members have been appointed to the committee through interviews conducted by a FIFA and AFC panel. These five members are;

Chairman - Ahmed Zuhoor

Member - Fareeha Shareef

Member - Ahmed Muizzu

Member - Ismail Simon

Member - Ahmed Ali

The female member of the committee is Fareeha Shareef, who has expertise in the field of accounting and finance.

Chairman Zuhoor served for about two years as Sports Minister during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen. Even then, he had taken several steps with a view towards reforming FAM. He had even submitted a letter from the government to FIFA expressing concerns about the way FAM had been run at the time.

The Normalization Committee's term will conclude on July 31, 2025.

The responsibilities of the committee include reforming administration of FAM, revising the guidelines, and holding a new election.

They will also have an audit of FAM conducted, and look into how financial transactions were done, and the ways in which funds received had been utilized.

FAM's last President Bassam Adeel Jaleel currently remains on suspension under allegations of misappropriation of funds.
