Male City Council reopened Rasfannu Beach for the public on Wednesday.
Speaking to local media Mihaaru, Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef stated that the beach was reopened after receiving clearance from Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The beach was closed off since late March after sewage was found in the water.
During former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure, Rasfannu was closed in 2016 when a sewage pipe burst near the previously run West Park. However, the beach was subsequently opened when HPA deemed it safe following multiple tests.
However, neither HPA nor Male' City Council revealed how the water was contaminated this time.
Shamau also commented on the work done to decontaminate the water.
