Senior official of Chinese Communist Party visits Maldives

China CCP Vice Minister of International Department Sun Haiyan has arrived in Maldives on Sunday at the invitation of the Foreign Minister.

China's ruling Chinese Communist Party's Vice Minister of the International Department Sun Haiyan has arrived in Maldives today.

The visit was initiated on invitation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer. The Vice Minister will be in the country until Tuesday.

The State Minister of Foreign Ministry, Sherina Abdul Samad had received Haiyan upon her arrival at the Velana International Airport.

While having met with President Dr Muizzu this morning, she is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Parliament Secretary Mohamed Aslam and Foreign Minister Zameer as well.

The Ministry added that she will also be participating in a charity event held at Haa Dhaal Atoll Mahibadhoo.

At the courtesy call on the President this morning, the President and Vice Minister reflected on the many areas of collaboration agreed on between the countries. They expressed interest in continuing to strengthen bilateral relations between China and Maldives.

This visit follows President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to China at the invitation of the Chinese President Xi Jinping between 8th and 12th of this month. The president has extended an invitation to President Xi Jinping to pay a visit to Maldives as well.

During the president's visit to China, 20 agreements were signed between the two countries on various projects that will be executed in cooperation with State Ministries.

China has also announced it will be providing a grant of USD 130 million to Maldives.
