American Ambassador to Maldives, Alaina Teplitz and the Assistant Secretary of Defense of the United States of America, Randall Schriver, on Tuesday called on Minister of Foreign Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussions were held on ways to further strengthen the current relationship between both the countries.

Teplitz and Schriver gave assurance that the American government is ready to provide assistance and support, particularly to the defence sector. Moreover, they expressed eagerness to explore future American support for security cooperation activities in Maldives.

Meanwhile, Minister Shahid expressed gratitude to the American government for this aid in maritime and border security, countering terrorism, violent extremism and other areas of mutual benefit.

Foreign Ministry's State Minister Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Thilzeema Hussaain and Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shiuneen Rasheed were also present at the meeting.

Thilzeema was nominated as the Ambassador from Maldives to America by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Teplitz and Schriver were accompanied by Defense Attaché at the U.S Embassy in Colombo Douglas Hess, Deputy Political Chief at the US Embassy in Colombo Marcus Carpenter, and Military Assistant Kristian Pfeiffer.
