President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has accused the parliament of deliberately obstructing government projects.

In his visit to Haa Alif Hoarafushi, the President said that his administration had initiated multiple key actions to promote the economy within their first 100 day plan 'Hafthaa 14'.

Tomorrow, February 25, marks the 100th day since President Dr Muizzu assumed office.

The President said that the government's wish is for projects to proceed without hindrance or obstructions and to reach completion at fast speeds. He said that due to the structure of the country's Constitution, a President strongly requires the cooperation of the parliament in order to achieve this.

"No matter how big a project the government wants to run, be it through making a law, or amending a law, or even otherwise, the parliament can put a halt to it. They can even bring changes to it. They can present obstructions to it. This has happened before as well," the President explained.

"You would have seen even in these past three months, we made many attempts, to fulfill pledges, even those within the Hafthaa 14 plans, while we are proceeding with work to try and do so, they step in and baselessly, you would have all seen, they present us with multiple obstructions to even running the government," the President claimed.

The President implored to the people to elect people of a mind to cooperate with and provide assistance to government led projects, stating that the importance of doing so would be evident whether the matter is considered with an ideology focused on the nation, development, individual, or island level.

The President further highlighted that even in his first 100 days his priority had been on bringing about economic development while reducing and repaying the country's debt.

President Dr Muizzu further committed to resuming discontinued projects in Hoarafushi, alongside new projects initiated under his own pledges.

These include development of the hospital, addressing land erosion, establishing waste management processes, and a land reclamation project.
