Addu City Council reached the decision to charge an entrance fee from visitors to the park at a meeting held on April 2. The decision has been implemented beginning from Sunday, May 12.
The policies set by the Council state that the fee will be charged through selling tickets. Each ticket allows access to the park for a duration of 45 minutes.
- For Maldivians : MVR 10
- For Tourists: MVR 50
- For Work Permit Holders: MVR 15
The Eco Garden development team, Addu City Council officials, as well as other State officials who visit the park on on official matters will be issued a visiting card, the policy says.
The Park will also be available for bookings for special events and parties. Each booking will be for a minimum of three hours for a fee of MVR 800. Every additional hour will carry a charge of MVR 100.
The policy states that the fees collected will be used for repair and maintenance of the park, and will be deposited to the Addu Conservating Trust Fund. The funds will be managed in accordance with the Public Finance Act.
Mathikilhi Eco Garden is located in the main wetland area of Meedhoo, in the southernmost atoll of Addu City.
