Presidential candidate for Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said on Wednesday announced on Wednesday that if elected, his administration would relocate Arabiyya School to a larger site within Malé, in contrast to the current government's plan to transfer Arabiyya School to the old Jamaaludheen School building once construction is finished.

During his visit to Shaviyani atoll Kanditheem as part of his presidential election campaign for the September 9th election, Dr. Muizzu conveyed that the government has neglected Arabiyya School, which is committed to offering Arabic Islamic education. He pledged that this would be rectified under his administration.

Dr. Muizzu criticized the current administration for their handling of the situation when Arabiyyaa School's previous building was deemed unusable due to its deterioration. He likened the proposed location for the school to a "tin warehouse." Despite the ongoing development of the previous Jamaaludheen School site for Arabiyyaa School, Dr. Muizzu, who is also the Mayor of Malé, contended that the current administration is well aware of the shortcomings of the new location.

Jamaaludheen School requires expansion as well. The new Jamaaludheen School was built directly next to the old building.

"The government has presented a significant challenge to the parents of Arabiyya School and the public. The designated area is extremely congested and located within one of the most densely populated zones. Without expanding the road infrastructure in the area, navigation will become exceedingly challenging," Dr. Muizzu said.

Dr. Muizzu highlighted that the city council had enough land available which is suitable for constructing the new Arabiyya School building. He said that if he were to be elected president, he would facilitate the construction of a contemporary facility for the school on one of these plots. He expressed his commitment to ensuring education that aligns with the current times.

"There is available land within Malé city for Arabiyya School. This will be a priority in our administration. We are committed to allocating a substantial land in Malé for Islamic education at Arabiyya School," Dr. Muizzu said.
