Approximately 128 local individuals from over 68 companies are currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) representing Maldives in a large scale at the Arabian Travel Market, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) said Sunday.

MMPRC said that Maldives’ tourism minister Moosa Zameer is leading the team at the travel market in Dubai, which showcases the latest trends and innovations in hospitality and aviation markets.

The main purpose Maldives is taking part in the event is to attract more tourists from the Middle East and to run promotional campaigns by travel experts from the gulf region, MMPRC noted.

In order to promote Maldives as a tourist destination, an impressive 209 square-metre stand, which illustrates the country’s natural beauty, is set at the Arabian Travel Market, MMPRC had said.

Statistics from the tourism ministry reveal that 49,142 Middle-Eastern tourists had visited Maldives last year.

The event, which runs for four days, brings together over 2500 companies from across the world, and over USD 2.5 billion in deals are expected to be signed during its course. This is the 25th year of the event.
