The agreement between Maldives and India is to replace the Indian military personnel stationed in Maldives to oversee the operations of the military aircraft the country has gifted with trained civilians also from India.
All Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives have been withdrawn as of Thursday, May 9.
The first batch of Indian military personnel was withdrawn from Maldives in early March, followed by the departure of the second batch in April, totaling 51 soldiers. Although all military personnel have withdrawn from the country, the government has yet to reveal the final count.
During a press conference held by the Indian External Ministry yesterday, the Ministry's Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the last batch of Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives have been withdrawn.
He added that the three aircraft gifted by India to the Maldives will now be operated by civilian experts instead.
Repatriating Indian military personnel stationed in Maldives is a presidential pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The President had earlier said that the final batch of Indian military personnel will be leaving the Maldives by May 10.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer, in an interview with Mihaaru News ahead of his official visit to India, which began on Wednesday, May 8, expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its full support in withdrawing Indian troops from the country, in accordance with the request of the Maldives government.
"This initiative proves the strong relations between the two countries and ensures that any such issue faced by both countries can be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy," Minister Zameer said.
