Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced the 216th COVID-19 fatality in Maldives on Friday.
The agency said a 49 year old Maldivian man admitted in Hulhumale' Medical Facility (HMF) had passed away shortly after midnight on Friday.
This is the fifth COVID death of the month.
Maldives saw a surge in COVID cases from late April onwards, which also resulted in a surge in the COVID deaths as well subsequently. In May, 88 people died, while 50 people passed away due to COVID in June. The past two months saw the most recorded COVID fatalities.
As the daily cases have decreased, Maldives has reduced the alert level and also eased on many restrictions placed to control the spread of the corona virus as well.
According to HPA, 114 new cases were recorded till 6:00 pm of Friday. With this additional amount, the total number of confirmed cases has reached 75,736.
