Nursing Association said on Sunday that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had informed them that the salaries of nurses will be changed significantly within the next 3-4 months.

President of the Nursing Association Aminath Nashfa told Mihaaru News that a half hour meeting was held yesterday to discuss ways to strengthen the nursing sector. She said they received an acceptable response to their concerns.

Some of the matters they discussed with the President include establishing the posy of a Chief Nursing Officer as per the recommendation of World Health Organisation, in addition to appointing nurses in senior posts to atolls specified in the nurses framework as well. They also discussed ensuring nurses that work in the private sector fit the employment framework as well.

Nashfa said that they also had discussed introducing senior positions such as nursing directors and assistant directors to the hospitals and health centers in islands.

She said she believes nurses salaries will see a significant change within the upcoming 3-4 months. According to her, the President said priority will be given when they open for scholarships.

The nursing sector had seen an alarming turnover rate over the past two years. Nashfa noted that 206 nurses had resigned in 2020, with 101 nurses from IGMH, 92 from ADK Hospital and 19 nurses from Hulhumale Hospital.

Nurses' Association is currently preparing to hold an International Nursing Conference with EBPC at Bandos Resort on July 7.
