President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday appointed Fuwad Thowfeek as a member of the Elections Commission (EC) and Retired Colonel Ahmed Jihad as a member of the National Integrity Commission (NIC).

Letters of appointment were presented to appointees by the President during a special ceremony held at President's Office.

During this ceremony, Fuwad took his oath of office in the presence of Supreme Court Justice Uz Mahaz Ali Zahir.

Fuwad previously served in EC from September 2008 to September 2009, following which, he served as the Chairman of the Commission until March 2014.

He joined public service in February 1973, and has extensively served in Ministry of Planning and Development, and was in the Assistant Director-General until July 2007.

Jihaad is a decorated serviceman in the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). He joined the military service in 1982 and served in various ranks till 2013. His last posting was as the Deputy Search Coordinator at the Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre.
