Pressures mount on the new members of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to conclude investigation on MMPRC scandal.
Bilehdhoo MP Ahmed Haleem had warned of a swifter action against the new members of the commission if they fail to produce efficient results.
Haleem had warned at the most recent parliamentary session for independent commissions was held.
At the meeting, the lawmaker had further claimed that delays on the infamous MMPRC scandal will no longer be entertained.
Moreover, the lawmaker had emphasized on the current administration's pledge of recovering state funds lost due to the massive corruption scandal; which for the past four years has not been conclusively resolved.
The MP had also noted that failure or delays in a successful investigation will result in public backlash at the government and the President himself.
"The government is already facing allegations of incompetency, but there is not much the executive itself can do, rather this has been assigned to relevant bodies including ACC," MP Haleem noted.
Haleem further warned that failure of the commission to conclude the cases and file them with the prosecutor general's office will be subject to disciplinary or administrative action.
MP Haleem's comments were seconded by the parliament committee's chair Ms. Rozaina Adam who claimed the previous members of ACC were removed due to their negligence, incompetency, and failure to provide effective results.
