Maldives welcomes the first tourist of 2023

The Maldives has welcomed its first tourist for the year 2023. On Sunday, Maldives welcomed Nikolai Stratichuk, who visited from Russia.

As the first visitor to the Maldives this year, Stratichuk received a five-night stay at Reethi Faru Resort. He also recieved a gift from Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the Ministry of Tourism, and Dhiraagu.

At the welcoming ceremony, MMPRC Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed expressed his satisfaction at the awards and accolades the Maldives received last year

“MMPRC and Maldives tourism industry’s concerted drive to provide visitors with options to relax and rejuvenate after the effects of the global pandemic bore fruit as hundreds of thousands of visitors flocked to the Maldives with the assurances of a safe vacation,” Thoyyib said.

“This past year has been one of immense success to the Maldives, winning award after award. We welcome the first visitor of 2023 with a smile on our face, and the aim in our hearts is to maintain the successes of last year,” he added.

While the Maldives’ first visitor of 2023 arrived from Russia, the market continues to remain the second strongest source market in 2022. Tourist arrivals from Russia for 2022 reached 198,670 by December 28.

Maldives achieved its visitor target of 1.6 million arrivals on December 20, 2022, and reached an annual total of 1.66 million by December 28. The Maldives government has announced its visitor target for 2023 is 1.8 million tourist arrivals.
