A taxi went out of control near the taxi queue at Velana International Airport (VIA) this morning and collided with a pickup truck, the airport has stated.
In a post on X, VIA reported that the accident occurred around 10 am. Preliminary assessments suggest the crash was caused by a medical emergency experienced by the 67-year-old taxi driver.

Police confirmed that officers were at the scene of the collision between the car and the pickup truck. The taxi driver was hospitalized with injuries, while a passenger in the vehicle was treated at the airport clinic for minor injuries.
Photos from the scene show the taxi colliding with the back of a large pickup truck near the airport’s taxi queue. The impact left the front of the taxi severely damaged, wedged beneath the pickup.
Police said that their team is currently active on the scene.
