A motion to summon the flat committee that had deliberated the list of flat recipients during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s tenure - which consisted of a large number of ineligible recipients as per the Anti Corruption Commission's investigation - to the Parliament’s Committee on National Development and Heritage has been passed.

The motion by Yoonus Ali of the Holhudhoo Constituency proposed during today’s parliamentary sitting to summon the members who were active in the flat committee at the time alongside Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC) members and Senior Representatives of current Housing Ministry to the next meeting of the Committee.

The proposal to summon all the aforementioned personnel to the Committee was passed unanimously at the session today.

Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed was summoned to yesterday's meeting to clear information about the “Gedhoruveriya” housing scheme introduced by the former government.

The “Gedhoruveringe” Committee established to distribute land and housing flats through the “Binveriya” and “Gedhoruveriya” schemes consisted of 5 members.

Former State Minister of the Planning Ministry Akram Kamaludeen was active in the committee as the Chairman while the Co-Chairman appointed was the former State Minister of Finance Ministry, Anas Abdul Sattar. The remaining members were Maryam Nazima, Aishath Rashida and Mohammad Arif.

The list of recipients for the “Gedhoruveriya” scheme was released two days before the end of the former government’s term which had prompted the Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC) to halt the distribution in accordance to the list. Following two months of investigation, the committee found that 60 percent of the 4000 listed recipients had not met the eligibility criteria.

The recipients devoid of any faults were 20.7% while 19.7% of the applications had misinformation in their forms despite passing the criteria.
