Road Development Corporation (RDC) has said that the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu in Malé City will be carried out in two phases.

An official from RDC told "Mihaaru" on Tuesday that they were working tirelessly to complete the project, which involves laying asphalt on one of the main roads of the capital city. However, the official noted that there were delays due to pending upgrades from the State Electric Company (STELCO) and Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).

Asphalt works will commence once paving has been completed up to Billabong International School, which is situated at a juncture in the center of the road. According to RDC, vehicles will be allowed to travel on the road when the paving work is complete, even if the asphalt work is not.

The redevelopment work of Ameenee Magu has garnered public scrutiny as there has been no visible asphalt laid on the road despite work commencing three months ago.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted the work to RDC on July 3, 2022. The corporation officially commenced the project on August 30; RDC was given 10 months to complete the road redevelopment project.

The MVR 84 million state-funded project includes laying of asphalt across 1.7 kilometres of road as well as the installation of a water drainage network.
