The Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC), on Wednesday, confirmed that a Grade 3 teacher at Aminiya School tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the centre, other staff that had come into contact with the teacher, outside of the school, have now been quarantined.
HEOC assured that no students were expected to be contacts due to the preventive measures taken at the school.
After long periods of closure and online classes, Maldives kicked off its academic year on Sunday this week. Minister of Education Aishath Ali had urged parents to send their children to school, asserting that the preventive measures in place would prevent outbreaks in schools.
At present, Maldives records a total of 14,218 virus cases of which 760 are active cases, in addition to 13,402 recoveries and 49 deaths.
