The man was taken into custody after police found a hammer concealed in his jeans, leading to charges of attempted assault and possession of a dangerous object in a public place without a valid reason.
The Criminal Court has ordered the release of a 23 year old man arrested on charges of attempting to commit assault.
The man was taken into custody after police found a hammer concealed in his jeans, leading to charges of attempted assault and possession of a dangerous object in a public place without a valid reason.
After spending 15 days in remand, Judge Aminath Azlifa ordered him to be released on conditional bail, citing insufficient evidence to support the attempted assault charges. While there was some evidence indicating possession of a dangerous weapon without a valid reason, the court found no grounds to further detain him or evidence that could influence the case.
During the hearing, the accused said that he had borrowed the hammer from a friend at SG garage to fix a broken glass window in his room. He stated that he had tucked the hammer in his jeans because it couldn’t be stored under the seat of his motorcycle. The man also said that he runs an online business.
