Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Monday, departed to the capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka, on an official visit.
During the two-day visit, undertaken on the invitation of Bangladesh’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr A K Abdul Momen, Shahid will conduct official discussions with his counterpart and pay courtesy calls to Bangladeshi President M D Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Prior to his departure, speaking to the press at Velana International Airport, Minister Shahid expressed appreciation for the contribution of thousands of Bangladeshi workers to the development of Maldivian economy.
“... at the same time, the issue of the large number of Bangladeshi nationals living in Maldives unregistered needs to be solved”, he added, asserting that certain discussions of the visit will revolve around the topic.
Further, according to the Foreign Ministry, Maldives and Bangladesh is scheduled to sign two MOUs, regarding human resource placement and Bangladesh’s Foreign Service Academy.
On this visit, Minister Shahid is accompanied by Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed and Joint Secretary Fathmath Gina.
