Maldives Immigration has launched 'Immigration Watch', a platform for reporting any immigration related cases, including concerns of undocumented immigrants.

The platform was launched by Immigration Controller Mohamed Sham'aan at the first media briefing held by Immigration under this administration.

The platform is hosted on the Imuga website, and allows anonymous reporting as well. Reports can be submitted with attached photos or documents, and can be submitted around the clock.

At the launching ceremony today, Sham'aan said that the platform would allow for Immigration to work collaboratively with a large number of members of the public.

"Through this platform, anyone can report an issue regarding expatriates being here illegally. Or about an expatriate trying to enter Maldives illegally," the Controller said.

The result of this would be Immigration getting the opportunity to work closely with the community, and so being able to further strengthen their services, he said.

One of the issues that have been given priority under this administration is the identification and deportation of expatriates living and working illegally in the Maldives. In the past seven months, over 2000 expatriates have been deported. Immigration, together with Police, are also conducting special operations to intercept expatriates working illegally in the Maldives, with over 100 expatriates having been taken into detention under this operation so far.
